My father has always loved Greenlee County and the people that live there. He loves young people and truly believes that investing in them is investing in the future. I can say that I believe there are very few people in the Duncan, Franklin, and York areas that have not been personally affected in a positive way by his service to either themselves or a family member, if not both.
Most have not seen the many days he would get done working a 12, 14, or 16 hour day and sometimes more, come home grab a quick bite to eat or even just grab one of us kids, because someone had called and needed help with an animal. It could have been a ranch cow out in the middle of nowhere, a horse, a dog, a cat, or 4-H project. It didn’t matter. He was there and still is to this day. He doesn’t do it for the money. He has never taken a dime from anyone for it, still doesn’t and never will. Why, because he loves the people and he loves to serve.
How many people have watched, played, or coached a little league game that he has umpired, not for the pay, because there was none, but for the love of the kids? How many hooves has he trimmed, pigs or sheep have been doctored, pigs kissed, whispered to, or enticed for a fair picture?
My dad, Richard Lunt, isn’t perfect, but who is? There are a few things you can’t fault him for:
1. He cares deeply.
2. He serves selflessly.
3. He votes his conscience.
4. He is as honest as the day is long.
5. He works tirelessly.
6. He will always be there, rain or shine, doing what needs to be done.
Why, because that is who Richard Lunt is, a hard working, honest, dependable, personable man of integrity.
He is my father and my friend. I love you dad. Your father is proud of the man you are.
