Endorsement from the Director of the Department of Forestry and Fire Management for the state of Arizona, David Tenney

"At a time when the whole world is watching California forests burn up, due in a large part to mismanagement, Richard Lunt knows it is more important than ever that we continue the fight to restore and save Arizona forests," said David Tenney, Director of the Department of Forestry and Fire Management for the state of Arizona. "Richard is one of a handful of county officials in northeastern Arizona that were critical in the formation of the Four Forest Restoration Initiative. He was persistent and forceful as he worked with the federal government, including the Secretary and Under Secretary of Department of Agriculture, the Chief of the Forest Service, congressional leaders in both the House of Representatives and the Senate as well as local and regional Forest Service officials in an effort to bring significant change to forest management policies and practices in Arizona. He successfully lobbied Congress in the effort to give the Forest Service the authority to offer 20 year stewardship contracts in an effort to attract industry that could ultimately restore and save Arizona's forests."

U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Rep. Tom O’Halleran (D-AZ-01) on Friday, September 25, 2020, led members of the Arizona delegation in a letter to the U.S. Forest Service highlighting the need for action on the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI) in Northern Arizona to help reduce wildfire risk. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Reps. Ann Kirkpatrick (D-AZ-02), Paul Gosar (R-AZ-04), Andy Biggs (R-AZ-05), David Schweikert (R-AZ-06), Ruben Gallego (D-AZ-07), Debbie Lesko (R-AZ-08), and Greg Stanton (D-AZ-9) also signed onto the letter.
“In Arizona this year, there have been more than 1,600 wildfires and more than 700,000 acres burned which is more land burned than in 2018 and 2019 combined,” the Members wrote. “Entire communities, industries, and businesses across the state are waiting on the 4FRI project to move forward. The steadily increasing risk of wildfire combined with the economic uncertainty caused by prolonged delays means it is critically important for the Forest Service to expeditiously award this Phase 2 contract.”

Hector Ruedas Endorsement Letter

Endorsement Letter for Richard G. Lunt Candidate for Greenlee County Supervisor District 3

It is with great pleasure and pride I endorse Richard Lunt for the position of Greenlee County Supervisor District 3 for the term 2021-2024. He is the right person for this position because of his knowledge and background in local, county and state government.
I had the opportunity to have served with Richard during my tenure as Greenlee County Supervisor for District 2 for 5 terms, 1992-2011. Richard and I served together from 2005-2012. He was re-elected in 2017 for a very good reason. I had the fortune to see Richard's skills, knowledge understanding of local, state and federal government. I also got to see a newly elected Supervisor grow his skills and knowledge and understanding of county government in a very short time.
His educational background with a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Bachelor degrees in Animal Science and Agricultural Education gave him more than just insight of this position, but gave him a full understanding of how county government works. He is quick to learn and understand.
Apart from that, he is a very reliable and experienced person. Richard is one of those people that connects dots really fast and is able to develop strategies without much difficulty. He is very experienced and good and understands county budgets.
Richards national, state and local leadership experience is outstanding. He has served and is serving in many local, county, state and national boards and associations which makes him an asset to Greenlee County as a Supervisor having contacts available to him.
Richard is willing and able to work hard and work full time as County Supervisor for the betterment of Greenlee County and District 3.
After the above mentioned, I strongly support RICHARD G. LUNT for Greenlee County Supervisor District 3. He is an asset to Greenlee County and you will not find anyone more dedicated to this position than Richard. Born and raised in Greenlee County, this is his home and he cares very much for the people and the betterment of his district and Greenlee County.
Hector Ruedas, Retired Greenlee County Supervisor

Amanda Calloway Endorsement

Dear Mr. Lunt,

I wanted to take the opportunity to let you know how much you are appreciated. Though the Greenlee County Fair was different this year, it was so much fun, a different kind of fun. The smell in the air was different. The variety of crowd, the auction participants and the vendors were different, but the buyers from local businesses were there to support the kids.
While assisting my nephew in the task of pig washing, I heard a familiar voice. I looked across the show ring and there you were with a happy disposition, as you have been for as long as I can remember, for at least the last 30 plus years. Even though your face donned a mask, you could still see a smile on your face and see how you treated each child as if they and their animal were the Grand Champion Showman. I can recall all the years you were behind the scenes in one way or another. From showing a green hand a thing or two in the ring before a show, to taking over a parent's duty when they got called out or lending a hand to wash a pig, you were there. I even recall the times you’ve explained to a child that the animal they have paid for, worked hard for and cared for, now has to be put down because they were sick a week before the fair. Better yet, sometimes you have been able to save the animal.
Your kindness to children, including myself as a child, has been so welcome and much appreciated. You and your wife have fed, given service to, and mourned with us as a community, and privately as friends. Thank you again for being an amazing man and mentor to so many children who have grown into great adults.

Western Interstate Region Works on Public Land Issues

I represent the state of Arizona on the Western Interstate Region of the National Association of County Officials. This is a group of 15 western states that help set policies in the federal government that impact the western United States. The west has different needs than other parts of the country and they are better addressed by working together as 15 states than as just one small county. Most public land is in the west and we address many of the issues regarding public land.

Vote to re-elect Richard Lunt on November 3rd for Greenlee County Supervisor District #3!

Lobbying Congress is a Big Part of the Job

Lobbying the US congress for money is a big part of a supervisors job. We need money from the federal government to help fund roads, schools, law enforcement and search and rescue. I have been there building relationships and fighting for the funds we need.

Travel Management

Several years ago, I served on the Resource Advisory Council of the US Forest Service. While I was there, we developed the most lenient travel management plan in the United States. Travel management encompasses big game retrieval, wood cutting, camping and roads. The forest service is now revisiting that plan and is trying to make it more stringent. I am here fighting to keep the lenient plan we have.

Greenlee County Native

I am an Arizona native as well as a native of Greenlee County. I was born and raised in Greenlee County. I understand the needs of the citizens. I am concerned about the same things you are concerned about. I know you, and I care about you. Thank you for letting me serve you.

Housing is up in Greenlee County

What a wonderful time to live in Greenlee County. The number of new homes being built in our community is in line to exceed previous years. In addition, many older homes are also being renovated and sold, breathing new life into our neighborhoods. Increased housing creates opportunities for people to enjoy the benefits of raising their families in a rural area. I speak from experience when I say that there is no better place to live than Greenlee County.

Endorsement from Jason Whiting, Navajo County, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors

I have had the honor and privilege of working with Supervisor Richard Lunt over the past 4 years and have valued his leadership and advocacy for rural Arizona. As a supervisor from Navajo County, we share many of the same rural issues and working with Supervisor Lunt has helped the rural Arizona voice to be better heard at the state, as well as back in Washington. It has been my experience that any group Supervisor Lunt serves on, he quickly gets involved and rolls up his sleeves and gets to work. As a result of his efforts he has helped us to more than double the amount of timber Arizona harvests. He has also helped us to mitigate the impacts of government overreach and to be a voice rural Arizona continues to need. I am happy to endorse and support Supervisor Lunt, as he has earned my respect and appreciation and I hope you will elect him as a needed leader in Arizona.

Endorsement from Adele Merrell

Supervisor Richard Lunt is one of my many brother in laws.
Like Jarom, I have watched him come in from work grab a burrito and head out to help someone's animal, or even go to help someone in need. Whether it's just a listening ear or sitting with someone who has just got some bad news or someone who has lost or is losing a loved one. Richard has lived a life in service whether he is in the Supervisor seat or not he has served Greenlee County
Richard is one of the most honorable men I have ever known and I am grateful to have him as a friend and also as a member of my family.
Greenlee County is lucky to have a man of integrity like Richard Lunt serving as County Supervisor. I hope the voters will support his re-election.

Endorsement from Jarom Lunt

By Jarom Lunt
My father has always loved Greenlee County and the people that live there. He loves young people and truly believes that investing in them is investing in the future. I can say that I believe there are very few people in the Duncan, Franklin, and York areas that have not been personally affected in a positive way by his service to either themselves or a family member, if not both.
Most have not seen the many days he would get done working a 12, 14, or 16 hour day and sometimes more, come home grab a quick bite to eat or even just grab one of us kids, because someone had called and needed help with an animal. It could have been a ranch cow out in the middle of nowhere, a horse, a dog, a cat, or 4-H project. It didn’t matter. He was there and still is to this day. He doesn’t do it for the money. He has never taken a dime from anyone for it, still doesn’t and never will. Why, because he loves the people and he loves to serve.
How many people have watched, played, or coached a little league game that he has umpired, not for the pay, because there was none, but for the love of the kids? How many hooves has he trimmed, pigs or sheep have been doctored, pigs kissed, whispered to, or enticed for a fair picture?
My dad, Richard Lunt, isn’t perfect, but who is? There are a few things you can’t fault him for:
1. He cares deeply.
2. He serves selflessly.
3. He votes his conscience.
4. He is as honest as the day is long.
5. He works tirelessly.
6. He will always be there, rain or shine, doing what needs to be done.
Why, because that is who Richard Lunt is, a hard working, honest, dependable, personable man of integrity.
He is my father and my friend. I love you dad. Your father is proud of the man you are.

My Stance on Mud Slinging

In light of recent events, I find it necessary to express my sentiments regarding what it means to be a public servant. All my life, I have worked hard to make our community a better place to live. Those who know me, know that I have always been involved in the community, extending a helping hand to anyone in need of assistance, even before becoming an elected official. Years ago, when I first ventured into the political field, a highly respected elected official from our community, Liz Tea, gave me some advice. She told me, "Do not participate in mud slinging. We live in a small community and after the elections are over, we still have to be neighbors." I have always lived by this advice.
I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me to serve as your county supervisor. In my current position, I work with good and honorable men. They are men of integrity who work to make the best decisions possible for Greenlee County.
Above all else, I value my honor and integrity. I have served this community for over 40 years. Those of you who know me, know my heart and know I have always done what is best for Greenlee County. Thank you to all who have supported and continue to support me as your Supervisor. I am honored and humbled to serve the citizens of our great county.

Endorsement from Keith and Beth Hansen

To Whom It May Concern,
The intent of this letter is to endorse the candidacy of Richard Lunt, incumbent, for Greenlee County Board of Supervisors in District 3.
We have lived in the Duncan Valley for over 40 years. During that time, we have enjoyed many dealings and associations with Richard and his family. At one time we were business partners in Lunt's Dairy. In all our associations, we have found Richard to be a man of his word. We have always been treated fairly. Richard loves people and enjoys serving them. He has an outgoing personality and is not shy about putting himself forward to get things done.
Richard grew up in this district and has lived and worked here most of his life. He raised his family here. He has a vested interest in the quality of life in this county and will work hard to maintain and improve it. He has served in several organizations in the public interest, and has worked in private business. He is always involved in community activities. He is acquainted with many people locally and in state government whom he can call on to get help when needed. He has always been community minded.
Richard has served Greenlee County well for many years. He is experienced. We endorse his re-election wholeheartedly.
Sincerely,
Keith A. Hansen

William and Jill Wearne Endorse Richard Lunt for Supervisor District #3

I am writing this letter on behalf of William and Jill Wearne. We are placing our support behind Richard Lunt in the 2020 race for Greenlee County Supervisor. Richard has and will continue to represent his constituents in Greenlee County. He fights for and understands the needs of a small county. Richard is not afraid to stand up to the larger counties and explain how different the needs of a small county are compared to a large county. We will be voting for him this November.

Fighting for a Park in York Valley

Image may contain: 1 person, standing, sky, hat, tree, cloud, outdoor and nature

For those of you wondering what is happening in the York Valley, we have recently started work on a new park. With the support of myself, David Gomez and Ron Campbell, the residents of York Valley will be able to enjoy this recreational area near their homes. While only in the beginning stages of construction, we envision the park in York as a place for families and friends to gather and enjoy for many years to come.

Fighting for our Greenlee County Livestock Show and Auction

Image may contain: one or more people, people standing and basketball court, text that says 'Greenlee County 4-H GREENLEE COUNT FAIR 2019'

These are truly challenging times we are living in. Trying to continue the traditions that hold our community together while remaining safe has been particularly difficult this year. I would like to express my appreciation to the various leaders from the youth organizations that came up with a plan to safely hold the annual youth livestock show and sale for both large and small animals. The show and sale are traditionally held in conjunction with the county fair but with conditions as they are, we will not be able to host our traditional county fair this year. However, thanks in large part to these dedicated leaders, and their creativity and cooperative spirit, we will be able to continue our strong tradition of supporting Greenlee County kids who are learning important life lessons through these livestock projects. Extensive plans have already been made to allow each youth who has put the time and effort into raising animals to be able to show their animal projects and to participate in the livestock sale. The sale will be a hybrid of both limited in person bidding as well as online bidding. We will be getting more information out soon so that the sale can be as successful as possible.
